Tree Trimming & Removal Requests
Tree Trimming & Removal Requests
The Commission would like to remind all Borough residents and property owners that you must receive the Commission's approval before removing or pruning a tree on the Borough's right-of-way (first ten feet of property as measured from the street). Failure to do so is a violation of Borough ordinance and is punishable by a fine.
Please send your written request, either via e-mail, to shadetree@emersonnj.org, or by letter, to the Shade Tree Commission, Borough Hall, 1 Municipal Place, Emerson, NJ 07630. Include your address, reason for the request, and your phone number.
After inspecting the tree and making its decision, the Commission will contact you. Please be aware that the Commission’s tree maintenance program is subject to budgetary restrictions and other limitations beyond the Commission’s control. If you receive approval to have your tree trimmed or removed, we cannot ensure a specific date for the work to be done. Before removing the tree, the Commission requires that the homeowner sign an acknowledgement that the Commission may replace the tree with a new tree, planted on the same Borough easement and at the Commission’s expense.
If, however, the situation is a true emergency where a tree poses an imminent safety hazard to people or property, or if you notice such a problem anywhere in town, please contact the Emerson Police Department at 201-262-2800.
