Emerson Public Works Department
The Emerson Department of Municipal Services (DMS), also known as the Emerson DPW, has twelve employees: one Superintendent, one Foreman, two mechanics, two sewer department personnel, six road department personnel and support from a part-time secretary. We operate a fleet of seventeen cars and trucks as well as six pieces of construction equipment.
The DMS is responsible for street sign replacement, street sweeping, snow plowing, and line striping for forty-four miles of roads. Small repairs and moving furniture in all Borough-owned buildings are other duties, as are picking up white goods, metal and when needed other material at the curb. We also clean all Borough storm drains, trim low tree branches, remove small dead trees, and chip limbs and brush.
Additionally, the DMS cuts and cleans over 14 acres of parks, playgrounds, and fields, including Hillman Field, Sunset, Ackerman, Longview and Washington Parks. The DMS maintains play sets in each of the four parks. The two sewer department men maintain two sewer pumping stations and 127,000 feet of sewer lines. The mechanics maintain 38 motor vehicles, ten pieces of lawn equipment, chain saws, the police motorcycle and an ATV.
